Food: A Part of Life in Georgia

Food – the way of expressing culture, happiness or love. A best friend to many of us! Sometimes, food is even our reason of traveling. Georgian cuisine is different from any of what you might have experienced. Let’s get started to know about it.
PURI – GEORGIAN BREAD 
Puri

Georgian food always starts with bread and is an important component of any meal. It is baked in special ovens called tones which are clay pots. Fire burns at the bottom which starts to heat up the other sides of the oven. It is similar to the baking of the Indian Naans.

The Puri comes out moist and perfectly tainted with black bits all from the oven. The edges of the Puri are browned and taste delicious.

KHACHAPURI – GEORGIAN CHEESE BREAD

No visit to Georgia is complete without savoring one of its famous dishes. The warm cheese-stuffed bread wins your heart with all its goodness.

Famously known as the Georgian cheese pie, is one of the staple diets of Georgia. There are different versions of this bread across the region some of which are – Imeruli Khachapuri, Megruli Khachapuri, Acharuli Khachapuri and Khachapuri shampurze.

KABABI – MEAT

Kababi is one of the most popular meals of Georgia and can be flavored with different varieties of spices. Is one of those exclusive variety of Kebabs.

It is a ground meat that is formed on a skewer and is served well with onions and the delicious satsebeli sauce. The kababi is wrapped in thin lavishi bread and it tastes well with pomegranate juice.

MTSWADI – GRILLED MEAT

Mtswadi or Mtsvadi, is The Dish of Kings and is extraordinary. The preparation of this dish seems like a ritual. It is made outdoor on an open fire.

The dish is made with either pork, mutton or even veal. The meat is marinated in pomegranate juice before roasting it which makes it tender, juicy and even more delicious. What makes mtsvadi set apart from the others is the Georgian spices that are used to bring out the flavors of the meat.

KHINKALI

Khinkali

It is a type of Georgian dumpling that is primarily made in Pshavi, khevsureti and Mtiuleti. Khinkali is a kind of stuffed dumpling that is made of mushrooms, cheese, meat and vegetables.

The shape of the dumpling is in the form of a small money bag and is usually white in color. The style of eating Khinkali is by turning it upside down and grabbing it by its handle on the top.

Khinkali is served as an appetizer but can also be served as a breakfast and is seasoned with pepper.
