On February 14th 2017, marking my favorite day of the year only because it’s the birthday of my favorite person on this earth – My mom! And also maybe because of Valentine’s day… like I am not sure but could be.

Something that struck me just as a thought and a birthday present for my mom, became one of the most exciting stories of my life. All thanks to Tabeer Tourism for making this happen for us. Sharing my journey through words would be indescribable. It was a journey of mere experiences and heart-filling moments.

In the first week of February, I told my mom I wanted to take her abroad. We were too confused to know where to go at first. But, in the same week after a couple of discussions, we decided upon Azerbaijan. Now, how we decided onto Azerbaijan was funny. We had actually made chits of around 5 countries that were common between me and my mom. Out of which, my mom picked up a chit and we decided to get her confusion sorted out only with this, and it happened. IT WAS AZERBAIJAN.

Now, it was almost the end of the first week of February which left me tensed as to how we could get everything done in such a short notice. But, then we had Tabeer’s back on us. I called to one of their holidays executive and she gave us a good rate and an amazing 3 Nights/ 4 Days package which was one of the main reasons of the success of the trip. The executive applied for an e-visa for us which meant we just had to take a print of our visa and proceed with our travel.

So, our tour was booked on 14th February at 10:00am which was our flight time to Azerbaijan. We stood at the check-in counter of Fly Dubai and finished all are check-in formalities. Upon our immigration, we noticed a lot of them were actually traveling to Azerbaijan in the same flight as ours. This made it even stronger for us that our decision was not that bad. After all the formalities, we boarded the flight. It took us around 3 hours to reach Baku international Airport, that means we landed in Baku at 1:00pm in the afternoon. And to my surprise, Azerbaijan and Dubai have the same local time, which became even more easier for us to manage our time. Advantage of time, you know!!!

After finishing all the immigration formalities and getting our luggage, which took us around an hour and a half because of the crowd that had traveled to Baku with us. We finished everything by 2:30pm and got out of the airport were our local representative was waiting for us with my name written on the board he was holding. His board caught my eye. We were transferred from the airport to the hotel in a car which took us about 30 minutes to reach. Upon reaching, we checked in at the hotel while we presented our confirmed hotel voucher. Our room was on double sharing basis which was a good decision because the rates were too high if we would have taken two different rooms. Anyway, we were taken to our rooms. Our itinerary was quite flexible and good and so we opted for it.

DAY 1: We were going to be taken for a city Tour that covered the central part of the city. It was a bus tour that included sites like Seaside Park, Javanshir Bridge, The National Academy of Sciences, The Free Woman Statue, Izmir Park, the Avenue of Honor. Our tour ended at The Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center. This center looked marvelous. Its interior outside and within the center reflected the Azeri culture. We returned back to the hotel after being too exhausted, we went back to sleep because next day was the Tour day again.

DAY 2: Breakfast at the hotel. Well, it was good. I didn’t expect it to be so good but it actually was. After we munched on our breakfast, we got ready to start with our tour by visiting the Fire Temple Ateshgah which was a Fire House. It was basically a castle-like temple to what I could perceive out of it. Later we were taken to Mount Yanardag which is a literally burning mountain, no jokes. We had our lunch at azerbaijan grill.

DAY 3: We had our breakfast at the hotel and left for an early morning drive to the city of Gabala where we visited the Vandam Village and explored the Yeddi Gozel waterfall. After the waterfalls, we proceeded to visit Tufandag for which I was the most excited among all. ONLY BECAUSE IT WAS A MOUNTAIN RESORT. It was breathtakingly beautiful. It was a landscape of pure white snow and It was named Tufandag which literally means “Hurricane” in English due to the strong winds that almost blew us away. We returned back to the hotel in the night after trying to skiing at the resort. We were tired and fetched for some sleep and it was quite peaceful.

DAY 4: It was our day to depart from Azerbaijan. And I honestly wanted to stay here for longer. This country has some vibe that anyone can get connected to. But anyway, biding byes are a sign of meeting again and I decided I’ll come here once again and spend more days here.

We checked-out from the hotel and went around for some shopping to the nearby Baku Mall. After that we had our transfers ready for the airport. Upon reaching the airport, we handed over some tip to our driver while he passed a big smile to us and blessed us because he was a bit older than us.

With so many memories in our hearts, we boarded are flight back and landed to our pavilion – Dubai.

Next time I come to Azerbaijan, I would like to spend some time at a homestay in the mountains, hike or ski and get to know the life up there. We didn’t have enough time to enjoy the snow up in the mountains. What I liked the most about this trip is the convenience we had from our Tour Operators.

I would surely recommend all the historical lovers to visit Azerbaijan once in their life.
