Today, on August 28th, 2018, the United Arab Emirates celebrates its fourth annual Emirati Women’s Day that emphasizes the pivotal role that women of the UAE play in the growth of the nation. This day is specifically celebrated to honor the remarkable achievements and contributions of women in the building of this Arab nation.
On this gracious occasion, the country marks are celebrations under the theme “Women on the Course of Zayed” which also coincides with the “Year of Zayed” as announced by the President of the UAE.
From the sporting and bringing medals in the Asian games to taking necessary political decisions or being fighter pilots and aspiring astronauts; the Emirati Women are always on the forefront. The Emirati Women’s Day has been an initiative that has been launched by Sheikha Fatima – the chairwoman of the General Women’s Union in the year 2015 to recognize the significance of women in the country.
The late founding father of the country, Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan has always promoted the advancement of women in the Emirates which is also evident today as women in the UAE constitute of nearly 66% of the government jobs, out of which 30% of them are on decision-making positions. The government of UAE also comprises of nine female ministers who represent nearly a third of the total number.
On an international level, the UAE tops the world’s index in the “Respect to Women” and has ranked first in the gender equality in property rights, said Sheikha Manal.
The Mother of UAE, Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak has helped in strengthening the presence of women in the Emirates by supporting programs that involve the empowerment and contribution of Emirati women in UAE’s development and growth.
Presence of Emirati women in various fields remarkably in science, technology, engineering, medicine has always been a key factor in what the UAE has achieved so far and plans to!
Undoubtedly, the women of this nation have achieved many successes and have proven their worth to the homeland towards its accomplishment and prosperity that brings them the pride to be a woman of the UAE.
